Ian McKechnie: I am a business skills trainer helping firms raise the bar in the areas of selling, presenting and developing high performing teams. Typically I deliver 1 and 2 day workshops in-house, and often the people in the room are professionals or technical specialists who were not initially hired for their influencing skills. However they now find themselves in client-facing situations, out of their comfort zone – some even have sales targets thrust upon them - and many will struggle to meet the new challenge. They realise their technical expertise is no longer enough to be successful - it’s just a ticket to the game. What they now need to master is the ability to get out there and really connect the firm’s story with the client’s need, and be proactive about it. So my role quite simply is to set them on that journey, by giving them the Skills, Confidence and Mindset to perform better in any client interaction.
